Masumi produced works in limited series, often making each successive piece only after the previous one sold. As a result, ownership histories are scattered across private collections worldwide, and the Foundation's records are incomplete. For some works, we know of only one or two copies and have no record of who purchased them or where they are now.
Documented provenance benefits every holder: it supports authentication, strengthens insurance valuations, increases resale value, and establishes eligibility for exhibition loans and catalogue raisonné inclusion. A work with a clear chain of ownership is a stronger asset in every sense.
This is a voluntary project. Participation means sharing basic information about the work you hold and how you came to own it. The Foundation treats all submissions as confidential unless you agree to attribution. We will follow up only if we have questions about the specific work.
